Promotional Postcards

Promtional Postcards for Lost by Thomas Taylor.

With the fast approaching release date of "Lost" showing on the horizon, I have started to think about promotion. The book is basically finished. There are still a few things I have to iron out.
The planned release date will be Friday 13th July 2012. The eBook will be available immediately from amazon.com although the paperback may have a slight delay (nothing unusual there).

I have designed the postcards to hand out to people and bring awareness to the book/my name as an author. I always carry a few with me, so when I am asked about my book, I now have something that people can take away with them. Most people usually throw things like this in the bin, but the few that are actually interested in the book have all the details and the front cover all on one piece of card to hand. Hopefully resulting in sales.

A short poem exercise.

A short poem exercise I sometimes use to get my brain working before writing. I pick a completely random subject, usually from the newspaper and write away. As you can tell, my subject today was about all the violence in the world.

One Last Chance.
By Thomas Taylor.

These things are beginning to shock me,
These thoughts that reside in my head,
The truth that you all soon will see,
By the President it's sure to be said,
The thing we should all be aware of,
Is not a comet or alien attack,
Its the complete lack of love in the world,
And the last chance we have to turn back.

Exclusive Extra Chapter from "Lost"

Another chapter from my book "Lost" which is still being written. The chapter is a random chapter selection from the book. Hope you enjoy reading it!

Maggie Malone was viewed as a socially inapt person in her community. She shied away from conversation with the neighbours; she was known for isolating herself behind drawn curtains and locked doors. The inhabitants of Exeter Road only knew of her existence because of her weekly excursions to the local shop. She was extremely quiet and kept herself to herself. The neighbours never knew her to have any visitors to her dilapidated dwelling.
Maggie was born to a fragile, beaten mother who loved her very dearly. Her mother would shield her from her father’s tyrannical outbursts of abuse. As she grew older, her mother became less able to protect her from his demolition ball hands.
Her father was a strong man who stood six feet tall. He had a controlling nature and forbid visitors to visit the house. Her mother worked her fingers down to the bone and would often come home to a thrashing from her father. Maggie escaped the majority of the assaults because her mother was the preferred target, she was weak and accepted her punishment. It was all about to change.
One afternoon, the young girl of ten skipped home from school forgetting the troubles that lurked inside her family home. Reaching the garden path, she heard her fathers thunderous voice and her mothers restrained screams. She tentatively tiptoed through the front door to find her mother pinned beneath her father, his voice was eerily calm. His broad hands were wrapped around her mother’s throat. The brute was strangling her. Her mothers tender lips were turning blue, the whites of her eyes showed as they rolled back into her head.
“Dad!“ Maggie shrieked, “What are you doing?“
Maggie pounced on her father with a burst of adrenaline and courage. Never before had she retaliated to her father, but she could see her mother’s desperate gasps for air. A giant fist swung towards her jaw and she fell down to the floor. Everything went black.
A few hours passed and Maggie felt a throbbing in her cheek, it felt hot with pain. She brought her hand up to her cheek and felt her pulse through her swollen face. The room was silent as she dared to open her beautiful blue eyes. The room was dark,
“It must be night time,” she thought.
She scanned the room for the presence of her possessed father. Cupboards and shelves had been torn from the walls and ornaments were smashed on the floor. Staggering, she reached for the light switch and tripped over an object on the littered floor. As she switched the light on, the hazy glare from the light bulb revealed her mother’s blood stained corpse. Maggie fell to her knees and draped herself over her mother’s cold body and sobbed erratically.
A dark, looming shadow suspended in the doorway. Her father was watching her, grunting like an enraged bull. His powerful frame lunged towards his daughters petite stature, his eyes were devilish. Maggie ran for her life towards the back door and into the garden. She fled from her violent, blood thirsty father in terror. Exhausted and traumatised, Maggie reached the road and collapsed. A pedestrian rushed to her rescue, her guardian angel. Her father watched her from the window red faced with rage, his fierce eyes cut through her like a knife.
That was the last time Maggie saw her adoring mother. Having no family apart from her mother and father, she was put into care immediately. Haunted by the reoccurring memory of her mothers stony corpse lying on the blood soaked carpet, Maggie became a recluse. She hid away, isolating herself huddled into a corner. Her knees tucked up to her chin, as she rocked back and fourth. Maggie never did see her father again, apart from in her nightmares.

"Lost" update.

So, it looks like the title "Lost" has stuck for the time being.

I hope you all enjoyed the first two chapters from the book. I have passed a few copies to family and friends and they thoroughly enjoyed reading it. My sister-in-law is forcing me to write everyday and e-mail it to her, she likes it that much! I would say that's a compliment?!

The thing I have found enjoyable about writing this book, is the way my ideas have easily flowed from my head to paper. It is a story I have been juggling around my creative mind for a while and to see it start coming to life is humbling.

My planned release date for the eBook version is July 2012. However, the rate at which I am writing, may mean it is released earlier. Although, I am not going to rush things.

Before I publish, I will post another chapter to my blog. I am also planning to add a character bio page for my main character, John Wickers. I am asking that all my blog readers who like the book, can give me some feedback. Honest critisism please folks.

"Lost" by Thomas Taylor

Exclusive First Look at my New Book, "Lost".

I am working on a new book at the minute. It is a crime thriller with a twist (haven't they all)? I am a little undecided on the title, but at present I am titling it "Lost".

Brief Description:

When a suspected suicide victim calls for DCI John Wickers with her last dying breath, he is hurled into a world wrapped around mystery and heartache. He tries to unravel the truth to her identity and the lonely life she led, not to unsimilar to his own. A tattered photo of an infant child plaques the DCI's mind. Could this person help identify the body? He takes a personal quest to locate and find the lost child and finds some chilling discoveries along the way.

Exclusive to my blog readers, the first two chapters to my new book titled "Lost".

Chapter 1

A slick sheet of rain washed over the dark streets of Saldon. The solid depth of cloud had drawn the night in prematurely. The dull glow of the street lamps guided late night workers back to their adoring families. Apart from the solitary silhouette of one man holding an umbrella, the street on which Maggie Malone lived was completely desolate.
A forceful gale whistled through the naked branches of the trees that stood strongly in front of the terraced houses. Sheltered from the storm outside, Maggie Malone was slumped in her armchair. This was a typical everyday occurrence for the fifty four year old woman, who was unaware that the hazardous weather that resided beyond her front door echoed her own depressive mood. The desperation that gripped her so tightly had taken its toll on her once youthful, attractive appearance. Her personality shredded to pieces from the beast that is alcohol abuse and the dark, dense cloud that permanently hung above her head. Thoughts of ending it all frequently crossed her troubled mind. The extreme pain that she had suffered with for too long had isolated her from the outside world. Severe anxiety overwhelmed her frail demeanour.
In her drab and dated living room, she clutched a worn photo of an infant child with her left hand. It was weathered and almost colourless, with a strong fold down the centre. In the other hand, she was nursing a large glass of deep red wine. She self medicated her intense pain away with alcohol. The sad reality to it was that she knew it only had short term effects. A tear rolled down her wrinkled cheek, her chest grew tight. The tattered image tormented her mentality and suffocated her with deep emotion. Raising the photo closer, she tenderly kissed the picture then let it float to the floor like a feather in the wind. Her fight with guilt had proven unsuccessful. She had felt it was an unevenly matched battle. Her mind was made up, tonight was the night she would be reunited with her son.

Chapter 2

The cold weather was a shock to John Wickers' body. His tanned skin was still exhuming warmth from his trip to Malta. Soft sandy beaches and beautiful women were replaced with dull weather, a dreary grey landscape and unpleasant people. In an instant, he remembered why he had taken the vacation in the first place.
Travelling home from the airport, he dreaded switching his cell phone on. A week away from his job had taken a calming affect. He believed the high levels of stress were causing him to go bald, even though his colleagues completely disagreed. John’s appearance meant a lot to him, he was forever combing his thick head of black hair with a tortoise shell comb he kept in his breast pocket.
The rain was heavy as he sat in the taxi, cradling his cell phone. As the rain sprayed from the tyres into the darkness behind them, the screen lit up and the all familiar beep sounded, indicating already that he had to go into work. Then the cell phone rang, John knew it must have been important.
“DCI Wickers?” the voice was crackly; the signal wasn’t very strong near the airport.
“Yes?” John said exasperatedly.
“DCI Wickers, we have a situation that you must attend,” unexpectedly the constable’s voice sounded excited and nervous.
“Can it not wait? Isn’t there any other DCI’s on tonight? I’ve literally just landed from Malta,” he said firmly.
John’s feathers were ruffled. Although he had just relaxed for a week in Malta, he didn’t expect to be in work until the morning, “What can be so urgent that I have to be there?” he thought.
“DCI Wickers are you still there?” the nervous tone continued.
John’s mind had wandered slightly; he was still exhausted from the four hour flight.
“DCI Wickers? It is important that you attend the crime scene,” the constable’s tone turned forceful now.
“What’s so important?”
“Sir, the victim was still alive when we arrived at the scene. She specifically asked for you.”
The news of this distressed John. A million questions were jolting around his head.
“OK,” he said confused, “Text me the address details through and I will divert the taxi to the scene.”
John stared at his phone wondering who the victim was. He had no family, the idea of marriage and children were a strange concept to him. He lived as a solitary man, the only friend he had had in life had died the previous year.
The text message came through. The address was unfamiliar to him. Still confused by what was going on, he redirected the taxi driver to the new address. As the taxi drew nearer to the crime scene, he freshened himself up and straightened his clothes, trying to prepare himself for what he was about to see.

Promote Your Work!!!

This is a sister site for Children's Book Authors

Since the birth of the first site, it has rapidly took off. The main objective is to help promote the work of other author's and illustrators. Genuinely because of the success of Children's Book Authors, I thought that it would be a great idea to expand the idea for the adult literature market. I myself have a book aimed at an adult (not smutty) audience.

Feel free to add comments or links to your book titles. I will be adding pages for author's lists soon etc etc.
